DRoster: Employee Scheduling Software
DRoster is what I'd describe as niche software. Not everybody is going to have a use for employee scheduling software, but for those whom do need it, this could be a life saver. I imagine DRoster being a very welcome find for many small businesses or organizations that are burgeoning past the point of being manageable through a simple spreadsheet. Also, I feel it's nice to be aware of DRoster as it could come in handy for other purposes for those of us who tend to reverse engineer everything and think in work-arounds.

Nero 9 Free Version
Nero 9 Free Version is a scaled down version of Nero, that offers some of the most basic CD/DVD burning features for free. It allows you to burn simple data dics (no audio or video) and create copies of unprotected discs. MyDefrag is extremely solid because it is based on the standard defragmentation API by Microsoft, a system library that is included in Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, and 2008. Most defragmenters are based on this API, including the free defragmenter that comes with Windows and many commercial defragmenters. Basically all MyDefrag does is send "move this file to that location" commands to the API. The API is part of the operating system and can safely move almost any file on the disk, without risk and while the computer is in full use.
- Defragmention
- Imagine a book split into several parts, some pages are over here, other pages in another room on another floor altogether. You will have to walk a lot when you need to read the book. It may sound silly, but this is exactly what happens to files on your harddisk. Defragmentation will put all the parts (fragments) back together, making your computer a lot faster.
- Optimization
- Imagine a big library with lots of books, spread out all over the building and not sorted whatsoever. There is an index telling you exactly where every book is, but you will have to walk a lot when you need several books. This is exactly what happens on your harddisk, the files that belong to an application can be all over the place, anywhere on the harddisk. Optimization will bring all the files together in one place, leaving the rest of the harddisk empty, and will sort the files, for example alphabetically.
FireTune for Mozilla Firefox
You can either configure the Firefox settings manually or use FireTune. The difference is 30 minutes or more. Instead of having to tweak settings in 'about:config' manually, just provide FireTune with some basic details such as CPU speed and Internet Speed, and it will optimize your Firefox based on such input.
Note: Make sure you have made the backup of Firefox configuration before tweaking it with this tool. Backup and Restoration of original configuration can be made from within this tool.
It is a portable tool for Windows only, just extract the content from the zip file, open the folder, and hit FireTune executable file. You can also optimize Firefox portable using this tool, hit Settings, select Type Of Firefox, and choose Firefox Portable.
It not only optimizes the latest version of Firefox, but can also optimize older versions too. On the main window, you will start from 'Performance Optimization' tab where you can select your computer and internet speed.
Now moving over to 'Other Optimization' tab, you will find options that are not related to your computer speed, such as, enable caching of objects served over a secure connection(SSL).
In the last tab named 'Other Useful Settings', you will find options related to displaying an error page instead of an error message box, turning on/off autocomplete for URLs, and optimizing Firefox memory usage.
Note: As mentioned in the program, you must CLOSE Firefox before optimizing using this tool.
When all settings are done, hit Tune It! to apply the configuration. Now you will observe your Firefox to be faster than before. If you don't feel a difference you can try out a different CPU/Internet speed configuration.
